King Promise wins Artiste of the Year at 26th TGMA

Ghanaian music sensation King Promise has been crowned Artiste of the Year at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

This marks his first time of winning the highly coveted award, despite being nominated in the category in 2024 and 2025.

King Promise also took home three other awards: Best Afropop Song, Best Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste, and Best Album/EP of the Year.

In his acceptance speech, he urged young people not to give up on their dreams, citing his own journey as an example of resilience.

“Use me as an example of resilience,” he said.

“My first year when I broke out on the scene, I had seven nominations and I left with zero. While some people laughed, I just worked harder because I believe in God’s timing. Today, I am the chosen one.”

Born Geogory Bortey Newman was enveloped in music from a young age. Since his emergence in the music scene in 2016 he has been releasing charttopping songs.

Prior to emerging the Artiste of the Year, the singer who is known for songs like “Paris,” “Continental,” “Favorite Story,” and “Too Sexy,” pointed his achievements in the year under review, stating that his body of work speaks volumes. According to him, winning the award would be both a personal honor and an opportunity to further raise the profile of Ghanaian music on the world stage.

“I have been consistent and always put in much effort the year under review. I tried to be better than last year. The work speaks for itself. If this is the blessing that comes with it, I will gladly accept it,” King Promise told Hitz FM.

King Promise earned 10 nominations at this year’s TGMA, doubling his previous tally. He has toured extensively across Asia, Europe, and North America, enhancing his international appeal.
