The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, has dismissed false report circulating on social media and some media platforms claiming that the late student, Ransford Amankwah Asomani, had been smoking marijuana before falling from a hostel balcony.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the university said it had not made any confirmation or comment suggesting drug use prior to the incident, contrary to claims attributed to GHOne TV and widely shared online.
University management described the publication as unverified and said it did not originate from KNUST.
The statement stressed that the institution has not gone beyond its earlier holding statement and has made no pronouncement on the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
According to the university, investigations into the incident are still ongoing and no conclusions have been reached.
KNUST therefore disassociated itself from the report and urged the media and the public to disregard it, warning against speculation while official investigations are underway.
The university also called on media organisations to act with professionalism, ethical responsibility and restraint when reporting on sensitive matters, especially those involving the loss of life.
Management assured the public of its commitment to transparency and said accurate information would be communicated once investigations are concluded.
