Kofi Adams pledges to transform Ghana’s sports landscape as Minister for Sports nominee

Hon. Kofi Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation Designate, has assured Ghanaians of his firm commitment to the development of the nation’s sporting sector if confirmed for the position.

The Member of Parliament for Buem appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Thursday, January 30, where he presented his vision for the role, despite acknowledging his lack of direct background in sports.

“The majority are very happy I have been nominated. I will not disappoint Ghanaians, I won’t disappoint President John Dramani Mahama, and I won’t disappoint myself,” Adams stated confidently during his vetting session.

Kofi Adams emphasized the urgent need to focus on the maintenance and improvement of Ghana’s sports facilities. He pledged that, under his leadership, no sporting venue would be allowed to deteriorate to the point of becoming unusable.

“We won’t allow facilities to deteriorate to the point that we will be banned from using them. We will improve on maintenance culture to ensure our facilities are always in good condition.”

Historically, football has dominated the attention and resources of previous sports ministers, leaving other disciplines to languish in neglect. Adams, however, is determined to change this narrative.

“We are going to focus a lot more on other sports that are known as lesser-known sports,” Adams promised, signaling a shift in priorities.

With his vetting completed, Kofi Adams is now awaiting formal approval from the Appointments Committee to officially assume his role as Minister for Sports and Recreation, a position appointed by President John Dramani Mahama.

If confirmed, he promises a tenure focused on inclusivity, facility maintenance, and the development of sports across all levels in Ghana.
