Kumawu by-election to be held on May 23 – EC

The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has announced that the by-election for the Kumawu constituency will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

This was contained in a statement issued by the independent election regulator on Monday, April 17, 2023.

The Kumawu seat became vacant following the sudden demise of its Member of Parliament Mr. Philip Basoah.

In the statement available to Metro News, the Electoral Commission intimated that nominations will be received at the Setwere Kumawu District Office of the Commission from 2nd May 2023 to 5th May 2023.

The office will be open to forms picking at 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on each day.

Meanwhile, the governing New Patriotic Party has cleared six parliamentary hopefuls for the Kumawu constituency to run for the seat.

The party has chosen Sunday, April 23, 2023, as the day for selecting a candidate for the Kumawu by-election.

The current Director of Health Promotion at the Ghana Health Services (GHS), Dr Aboagye Dacosta; Opanyin Yaw Baah, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumawu; Obaapa Ama Serwaa, Ernest Anim, Dr Philip Yaw Barnor, Edward Kofi Osei, Kwame Appiah Kubi, and Owusu Bempah are among the six persons vying for the spot.
