Member of Parliament for Kumbungu Prof. Hamza Adam has launched the Skills and Entrepreneurial Development Initiative (SEDI) to tackle the alarming rate of youth unemployment in the Northern Region.
The initiative is designed to provide training and resources to equip young people with skills, making them financially independent and employable.
According to Professor Adam, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs are crucial in tackling youth unemployment, which currently stands at over 14% in Ghana.
The Northern Region has been disproportionately affected, with many young people resorting to rural-urban migration in search of better opportunities.
SEDI promises to equip beneficiaries with the necessary skills to start their own businesses or secure employment. To kick-start the initiative, 50 tailoring machines were distributed to dressmakers in the constituency.
Professor Adam emphasized the need for collaborative efforts from stakeholders to prioritize TVET education, ensuring individuals acquire skills for financial independence.
He pledged to resource all persons engaged in teaching, training, and learning of handicrafts in his constituency through SEDI.
Beneficiaries and trainers have expressed gratitude for the initiative, pledging to utilize the resources judiciously.
