Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, visited the maternity ward of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital on Monday.
Accompanied by the technical team of the Black Stars, including head coach Otto Addo and his assistant coaches, the delegation took the opportunity to connect with new mothers and their newborn babies. The visit, part of the build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, aimed to foster national unity and engage with the public in a more personal way.
The visit was more than just a ceremonial gesture; it was a chance to celebrate life and strengthen the bond between the Black Stars and the Ghanaian people. Okraku emphasized that it was important to engage with the community and share in the joy of new beginnings. “We spent quality time with new mothers and their newborn babies,” he remarked, highlighting the significance of this initiative in creating a deeper connection with the nation.
Head coach Otto Addo, along with assistant coaches Desmond Ofei, Alain Ravera, and Kim Lars Bjorkegren, joined Okraku on the visit. The team took time to interact with the families, offering words of encouragement and celebrating the new arrivals. The coaches shared their excitement about the upcoming World Cup, explaining that their commitment to the national team was not just about football, but about fostering pride and unity across the country.
The technical team’s presence at the hospital served as a reminder that the Black Stars are not just representing Ghana on the world stage, but are deeply rooted in the local community. The event also demonstrated the importance of sports figures in positively impacting society beyond the football pitch. “It’s essential to remember that the Black Stars are part of every Ghanaian’s life,” Okraku added, emphasizing the role of football in uniting people from all walks of life.
This visit forms part of the Ghana FA’s broader strategy to build a connection with the public ahead of the highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup. With Ghana’s qualification still to be determined, Okraku believes that engaging with the public in such heartfelt ways will inspire national pride and support for the team. The Ghana FA President sees these moments as vital to boosting morale and reminding the country of the collective effort needed to succeed on the world stage.
In addition to their visit to the maternity ward, the delegation expressed their commitment to continue strengthening ties with the wider Ghanaian community in the lead-up to the World Cup.
