Kwesi Appiah has resumed his role as a member of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Executive Council (ExCO) after a temporary suspension.
As the head coach of Sudan’s national team and an executive member of the GFA, Kwesi Appiah stepped aside to avoid any conflict of interest ahead of Sudan’s AFCON qualifier against Ghana in October.
According to a letter sent to the GFA and copied to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in October, Appiah has resumed duties as ExCo member, effective November 30, 2024.
“Effective immediately, I request that my involvement in all governance matters of the GFA be suspended until November 30, 2024. During this period, I respectfully ask that my privileges as an Executive Council member be put on hold,” part of the statement sent to GFA and CAF read.
Although the GFA has not officially announced Appiah’s return, his resumption of duties is expected to enable his active participation in the organization’s decision-making processes.
Kwesi Appiah’s return is also anticipated to bring his expertise back to the table, contributing to key decisions and strategies for Ghanaian football.
Meanwhile, Kwesi Appiah has successfully guided Sudan to qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament, while Ghana will miss out on this continental showpiece event for the first time since 2004.
