Private legal practitioner Lawrence Kwesi Botchway has taken steps to demand clarity on two major claims made in President John Mahama’s 2025 State of the Nation Address.

Speaking to the press, Botchway said, “This afternoon, we filed two RTI requests — one at EOCO and the other at the Ghana Statistical Service.”

The first request concerns the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). On page 32 of the President’s address, it was stated that EOCO had investigated 462 cases and recovered over GH¢600 million as of December 2025. Botchway’s RTI request seeks detailed information on:
The specific cases in which the GH¢600 million was recovered.
The individuals involved in these cases.
The nature of the cases and their case or suit numbers.
The dates when the recoveries were made.
Bank account details showing where the recovered funds were deposited.
The second request was directed at the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) to verify claims of one million jobs created in 2025. Botchway is asking for a detailed breakdown, including:
Jobs created in the private sector versus the public sector.
Identification of the institutions responsible for creating these jobs:
Public institutions
Private institutions
Other entities
Botchway emphasized that these RTI requests are aimed at promoting transparency and accountability, ensuring that public claims are backed by verifiable data.
