Lack of teachers’ bungalow affecting discipline and academic performance – Fettehman SHS headmistress

Management of the Fettehman Senior High School in Fetteh is appealing to government and the general public to assist the school with teachers’ bungalows to help improve discipline on campus.

The headmistress of the school, Stella Mawutor Kwame highlights the challenges confronting Fetterman SHS as a result of the lack of teachers’ bungalow.

Speaking to Metro News on the sidelines during the school’s 10th Year Anniversary celebration on Saturday, July 29, 2023, Madam Stella Kwame said since there’s no bungalows for teachers it is difficult for them to discipline and monitor students with a huge population size.

Established in 2013 by the United Nations HR(UNHCR) as a goodwill legacy for the Gomoa Fetteh Traditional Council for providing a land for the establishment of a refugees camp with just nine students now has a population of 1,401 but with a huge infrastructural deficit, through the assistance of GETFund and community members initiative, the school has had a few additional blocks aiding the conversion of the school from day to a boarding secondary school.

But, there’s still no accommodation for teachers to aid supervision of the 1,107 boarding students.

Madam Stella Mawutor Kwame tells Metro News that the challenge is negatively affecting academic progress of the school.

With no headmistress’ bungalow too, she noted that the school spends huge amount of money to rent a house which is outside the school’s premises.

As at now, the school’s improvised science laboratories can only admit just 15 students at a time and students also depending on an improvised library for extra academic activities.

Some parents and key stakeholders are equally worried that the school is having this huge infrastructural deficit.

To help address some of these challenges, the school’s board in collaboration with teachers and parents have began some building projects but facing financial difficulties and thus appealing for support from government and benevolent entities.
