Landguards kneel, cry after court remand

Two suspected landguards broke down in tears and knelt before the Accra Circuit Court, pleading for mercy after being remanded in connection with the demolition of an uncompleted building at East Legon.

The accused, 29-year-old Gabriel Abotsi Ahor and 32-year-old Benjamin Essel, are facing charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, namely landguard activities, and conspiracy to commit a crime, namely causing unlawful damage.

The charges stem from an alleged incident on July 15, when the two reportedly invaded a construction site at East Legon, demolished part of the uncompleted structure and assaulted workers at the site.

Following the court’s decision to remand them into custody, the two men reportedly became emotional, broke down in uncontrollable tears and went on their knees to plead with the court.

Their emotional plea came as they faced custody over the allegations arising from the disputed construction site.

The case is expected to continue as the court considers the charges against the two accused.
