Lands Minister condemns attack on Anti-Illegal Mining Task Force in Ahafo

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has condemned an attack on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) during an operation at Bronikrom near Hwediem in the Ahafo Region.

The incident happened on Saturday, November 1, when the NAIMOS team came under assault while carrying out an operation against illegal mining in the area. Details of the attack are still emerging, but the Minister said he had been fully briefed and described the event as “unfortunate and unacceptable.”

Mr. Buah said he has since met with the Speaker of Parliament and the Minister for the Interior to ensure that thorough and swift investigations are carried out. He added that government remains committed to holding accountable anyone who aids, supports, or engages in activities that destroy the environment.

“The perpetrators of this attack, and all those who continue to undermine our fight against illegal mining, will be dealt with according to the law,” he said.

The Ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting officers on duty and maintaining the momentum of the national campaign against illegal mining.
