Lands Minister Pays Tribute to Soldier Killed in NAIMOS Operation at Obuasi

Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has expressed deep condolences following the tragic death of Lance Corporal Collins Agyapong Safo, a NAIMOS soldier who lost his life during an accident on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in Obuasi.

The soldier was involved in a sanctioned operation by the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) aimed at combating illegal mining activities, also known as galamsey, when the fatal accident occurred. Private Collins Agyapong Safo, as he was known at the time of his passing, died in the line of duty.

The solemn burial service took place on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Arakan Presby/Methodist Church in Burma Camp, where Lands Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah led mourners in honoring the fallen soldier.

Speaking at the service, Minister Buah offered his heartfelt sympathy to the family of Lance Corporal Safo, describing the loss as not only a personal tragedy for the family but also a significant blow to the nation. The Minister said, “This is a painful loss for all of us, especially to the government and the President, who remain deeply affected by this tragedy. Collins’ death underscores the dangers our brave men and women face as they work to protect our environment and resources.”

In his tribute, Buah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing the fight against illegal mining in honor of those who have sacrificed their lives for the cause. “Collins gave his life fighting to protect the nation’s natural resources from illegal exploitation, and we will ensure his sacrifice was not in vain.”

Colonel Dominic Buah, the Director of Operations at NAIMOS, also paid a glowing tribute to the late soldier, describing him as a disciplined and vibrant individual. “Collins was a great man, always ready to take on challenges with enthusiasm and commitment,” said Colonel Buah. “I had the privilege of training him, and it was a joy to see him grow into a capable soldier. He will be missed by all of us at NAIMOS.”

In a special announcement during the funeral service, the military confirmed that Collins had been posthumously promoted from the rank of Private to Lance Corporal, recognizing his outstanding service and dedication.The promotion was in line with his exceptional conduct, as he had already met the necessary criteria before his untimely death.
