In his speech at the inauguration of the Association of China-Ghana Mining (ACGM), Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has called on the association to be a beacon of integrity within Ghana’s mining sector.
Speaking as the guest of honor on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, Kofi Buah reinforced the need for structured cooperation between Ghana and China, aiming to foster a mining industry that is both innovative and sustainable.
Kofi Buah emphasised, Ghana’s commitment to responsible mining must be shared by all investors, especially those partnering through the newly established ACGM.
“Responsible mining is not optional,” he asserted. “It is a shared obligation for future generations.”
The minister expressed optimism about the collaborative potential between Chinese investors and local stakeholders, focusing on technological advancements that can help the country optimise its mineral resources while safeguarding its natural environment.
A key part of the minister’s address focused on the fight against illegal mining, which he described as “an act of environmental terrorism” and “economic sabotage.” Buah outlined the government’s zero-tolerance stance, warning that there would be “no exceptions, no leniency” for violators of mining laws.
He urged the ACGM to ensure that its members comply with all legal frameworks, uphold environmental standards, and support community development.
As the ACGM embarks on this new journey, Minister Buah expressed confidence that it would not only be a catalyst for economic prosperity but also contribute positively to the welfare of mining communities through initiatives such as the Community Development Fund.
“May this association serve as a bridge for deeper trust, innovation, and shared prosperity between Ghana and China,” Kofi Buah concluded.
