Laryea Kingston Raises Alarm Over Black Stars’ Injury Woes Ahead of 2026 World Cup

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup draws closer, Ghana’s hopes of making a deep run in the tournament are clouded by injury concerns, according to former Black Stars midfielder Laryea Kingston.

While Kingston remains optimistic about Ghana’s prospects, he has highlighted a growing list of injured players that could severely impact the team’s performance in North America.

Kingston, speaking ahead of the World Cup, expressed confidence in the team’s potential but made it clear that health will be a critical factor in determining their success. “For me, I don’t really expect anything more than for us to go through the group stage,” Kingston said. He emphasized the importance of continuity within Otto Addo’s squad, noting that the players now have a good understanding of each other’s style of play.

However, the former international highlighted the key issue facing the team: injuries.

Several crucial players have been sidelined in recent months, and Kingston fears this could hinder their World Cup campaign. “My worry is that some of the players have picked up injuries,” he added. “If Otto Addo can get these trusted players fit, then we can do something.”

Among the players currently struggling with fitness are key figures such as Mohammed Kudus of West Ham United, Southampton’s Mohammed Salisu, Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey, and defenders Francis Abu and Abdul Mumin. These injuries have left Ghana’s squad looking vulnerable, especially given the importance of these players in the team’s tactical setup.

The Black Stars are drawn into a tough Group L for the 2026 World Cup, with matches against Panama, England, and Croatia. This group presents both opportunities and challenges for Ghana, with the team hoping to make it out of the group stage for the first time since 2010.
