“Let’s make Mamponse Shiabu a safe haven” – Assemblyman

Over two hundred residents, landlords, and local leaders gathered for the first-ever Community Forum in the Mamponse Shiabu Electoral Area last weekend, coming together to tackle security concerns, infrastructure challenges, and communal development.

The forum, organised by Assemblyman Daniel Oshin Tagoe, created an open platform for residents to voice their worries and share ideas for making Mamponse Shiabu a safer, healthier place to live.

Representatives from the Electricity Company of Ghana, Ghana Water Company, National Fire Service, Police Service, Environmental Health, and NADMO were present to answer questions and outline their support for the community.

In his address, Hon. Daniel Oshin Tagoe urged residents to take responsibility for their neighbourhood’s well-being, calling on them to actively participate in communal clean-ups and security initiatives.

He announced that the area would be divided into three zones to make local development projects more effective.

Community leaders and residents praised Tagoe’s accessible leadership style and commitment to solving problems on the ground.

The Chief of Mamponse, represented by an envoy, pressed the Municipal Chief Executive and Member of Parliament to fix the area’s poor roads and resolve an ongoing issue with a private school blocking road access.

Local police officers encouraged residents to report suspicious activities to curb crime, but some community members raised concerns about alleged police corruption and its impact on drug abuse among the youth.

Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Reverend Kweku Addo, pledged to work closely with Tagoe to bring progress to the community.

The Chairman for the forum, Mr. Emmanuel Simpiney-Mensah, challenged the planning committee to produce a clear roadmap within 90 days for the next phase of action.

Residents left the meeting hopeful that, with everyone’s commitment, Mamponse Shiabu could truly become the safe haven they all desire.
