Local governance thrives when all stakeholders work together — Asenso-Boakye

The Parliamentary Committee on Local Government and Rural Development has continued its public sittings to review the 2024 annual statements of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Middle Sector.

At the session, the Chairperson of the Committee, Hon. Maame Pokuah Sawyer, who is also the Member of Parliament for Agona East, called on the Assemblies to take audit findings seriously. She urged them to act swiftly on issues identified and to implement corrective measures that would ensure accountability and protect public funds.

The Ranking Member of the Committee, Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, advised Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to maintain strong relationships with key actors in their communities. He stressed that the success of local governance depends on teamwork and inclusion.

“For local governance to work, you need to carry along all stakeholders in the community, that is your Members of Parliament, opinion leaders and chiefs in your various localities,” he said.

The Committee is still continuing its public hearings with the MMDAs in the Ashanti Region.
