Lordina Mahama joins African First Ladies in Addis for resilience talks

First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama has joined fellow African First Ladies in Addis Ababa for the 30th Ordinary Assembly of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), held on the sidelines of the 39th Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

The two-day gathering is centred on the theme “Building Resilience,” with discussions focused on how African communities can better withstand and adapt to mounting global pressures, including economic shocks, climate challenges and public health threats.

After the official opening session, the First Ladies and their technical advisors moved into a closed-door meeting to deliberate on key development priorities and strategies. They later joined African leaders for the formal opening of the African Union summit.

Mrs Mahama, who has long championed issues relating to women’s empowerment, child welfare and community development, is expected to address the assembly on Sunday. Her participation forms part of ongoing continental efforts by First Ladies to influence policy conversations and drive social development initiatives across Africa.

The OAFLAD assembly traditionally serves as a platform for collaboration, advocacy and the exchange of ideas among Africa’s First Ladies, with a shared goal of improving the lives of women, children and vulnerable communities across the continent.
