Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, has denied allegations that she caused the arrest of a security officer on the University of Ghana campus for expressing a dissenting political opinion.
In a statement made available to Metro TV, the Ayawaso West Wuogon lawmaker Lydia Alhassan described the allegations as “false and malicious propaganda” aimed at undermining her reputation and commitment to the university community.
“I have always been a compassionate and fair leader. I have never based my engagements on political preferences, nor have I ever sought to silence dissenting voices,” she said.
Lydia Alhassan explained that her recent meeting with campus security personnel, which became the basis for the allegations, was aimed at understanding their challenges and providing the necessary resources to ensure the safety of students.
She cited her investments in the security of the university, including the provision of vehicles, motorbikes, and streetlights, as evidence of her commitment to the welfare of students.
“Do not let lies and propaganda mislead you. Look around, my actions speak louder than the empty words of detractors,” she urged the university community.
She appealed to voters to re-elect her as their Member of Parliament and to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as president in the December 7 elections.
“Together, we will continue to build a better and more secure future for the University of Ghana and Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency,” she promised.
