President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Model Market in Juapong in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region, a project aimed at expanding local trade, creating jobs and supporting economic growth.
The sod-cutting ceremony took place during the President’s two-day #ResettingGhana Tour of the Volta Region.
Speaking at the event, President Mahama said the facility would serve as a modern economic centre to support farmers, traders, entrepreneurs and small businesses in the area.
He explained that the market would go beyond providing trading spaces by offering essential infrastructure for storage, processing, packaging, distribution, digital commerce and access to financial services.
According to the President, the project forms part of efforts to build a stronger local economy by creating opportunities for businesses to grow and enabling communities to benefit from improved commercial facilities.
He said the 24-Hour Economy Model Market would help increase productivity, strengthen value chains and provide sustainable employment opportunities for residents in Juapong and surrounding communities.
