As part of his role as an Advocate for the Gavi Vaccine Alliance Replenishment, President John Dramani Mahama is currently in Brussels, Belgium, where he has held several high-level bilateral meetings ahead of the official pledging session.
President Mahama met with key figures in global health, including the Gavi Board Chair, Mr. José Manuel Barroso, and American philanthropist and co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Mr. Bill Gates.
In his meeting with Mr. Barroso, the Gavi Board Chair commended President Mahama for his steadfast support for Gavi’s mission and ongoing vaccine replenishment efforts.
He expressed confidence in President Mahama’s continued advocacy during the upcoming pledging session.
In a separate discussion with Mr. Gates, President Mahama highlighted recent developments in Ghana’s health sector.
They discussed the implementation of the Free Primary Healthcare programme, the progress of the National Vaccine Institute, and the positive outcomes of removing the cap on the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIS).
President Mahama extended his appreciation to Mr. Gates and the Gates Foundation for their continued support to Ghana through numerous philanthropic initiatives, and for their significant contribution to the Gavi Vaccine Alliance’s work globally.
