Mahama Hits back At Justice Eric Baah For Describing Anas’ Methods As Terrorism

Former President John Dramani Mahama has registered his displeasure with the stance taken by Justice Eric Baah on the modus operandi of Ghana’s Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Justice Baah in his ruling on the defamation case brought by Anas against the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, described the work of Anas as investigative terrorism hence throwing out the case.

The complainant was further fined to the tune of GHC 50,000.

But commenting on the ruling and the description of the modus operandi of Anas by the High Court Judge, Mr. Mahama admonished all judges and Ghanaians to desist from tagging journalists whose job is to seek evidence of wrongdoing as terrorists.

The NDC flagbearer aspirant made this call on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, when he delivered a lecture on financing political campaigns in Ghana at the UPSA Auditorium.

According to Mr. Mahama, all well-meaning Ghanaians should uphold the country’s democracy by desisting from describing journalists who have been breaking their backs for the country as terrorists.

“We must also uphold human rights, including freedom of expression and not be describing some journalists as terrorists,” Mr. Mahama noted.

He, therefore, made a promise to restore confidence in the country’s democracy and governance systems if re-elected in the 2024 elections.

“Mr. Chairman, my agenda to Build ‘TheGhana We Want Together’ from 2025, will involve far-reaching constitutional, political and governance reforms to restore confidence in our democracy and governance systems,” he said.
