Mahama inaugurates RTI Commission, calls for accountability in public service

President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in the new Right to Information Commission, marking another step toward greater transparency and accountability in public service.

The seven-member body, chaired by Dr. James Asante with Christina Edmund as Vice Chairperson, will oversee the enforcement of the Right to Information Act.

Other members include Hon. Kobby Woyome, Aba Edusah, Angela Emefa Kpegah, Chris Dugan, and Shirley Lartey, who will serve as Executive Secretary.

At the brief ceremony at the Presidency, President Mahama said the Commission’s work was central to building public trust and strengthening democratic governance.

The Commission’s mandate is to promote citizens’ access to information held by public institutions, ensure compliance with the law, and handle appeals from those whose requests are denied.

It is expected to play a key role in ensuring that government agencies operate with openness and accountability in the delivery of public services.
