President John Dramani Mahama has marked the anniversary of the December 7, 2024 elections, which he won, with a message of gratitude and renewed commitment to national development, describing the day as one when “Ghana spoke with one powerful voice.”
In a social post on Sunday, President Mahama said he was filled with “profound gratitude and renewed determination” as he reflected on what he called a historic moment for the country.
“I remember the anxiety, the hope, and the unwavering faith of millions of Ghanaians who stood in those voting queues, determined to reclaim our future,” he wrote.
Mr Mahama thanked supporters of the party, particularly polling agents, for what he described as their vigilance at polling stations across the country.
“To our polling agents who stood guard at every polling station, you were our eyes and ears, our ‘own referees’ as I called for,” he said, adding that the strategy was intended “to demobilise the plans of the Electoral Commission and neutralise the ruling NPP’s calculated attempts to subvert the will of the people.”
He praised the work of the party’s election and campaign teams, noting that their preparations ensured that “the voice of the people could not be silenced.”
Reaffirming his policy direction, Mr Mahama pledged to pursue what he called the “#ResettingGhana agenda,” promising inclusive governance.
“Today, I renew my pledge to every Ghanaian that we are building a Ghana for ALL our people, without discrimination, without exclusion, without favouritism,” he stated.
He also assured supporters that their efforts would not be in vain, but emphasised that rewards go beyond political appointments.
“To my NDC family, hold on tight. Your reward is not just in positions or appointments, but in the Ghana we are building together,” he said.
Mr Mahama ended his message with a call for unity and perseverance, noting that “the journey continues” and “the work goes on,” as he expressed appreciation to both Ghanaians and members of the NDC.
John Dramani Mahama was declared the winner of the Ghana 2024 presidential election, marking a historic return to office. He secured 56.55% of the votes, defeating his main opponent, the incumbent Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
