Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, has been nominated by President John Dramani Mahama to head the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology.
Announcing her nomination in a statement signed by Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President said he had, in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, submitted Dr Agyeman-Rawlings’ name to Parliament “for prior approval as Minister of State.”
If approved by Parliament, she will take over the portfolio that has been without a substantive minister following the death of Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed in the August 2025 helicopter crash.
The nomination gives Dr Agyeman-Rawlings an opportunity to move from the parliamentary committee room into direct responsibility for one of the government’s key policy areas, particularly at a time when environmental concerns remain high on the national agenda.
Who is Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings?
Born to military leader and first president of the Fourth Republic, Jerry John Rawlings, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings is a medical doctor and has represented Klottey Korle in Parliament since 2017.
She obtained her medical qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and later pursued further studies in conflict, peace and security. She also holds certificates in defence management, conflict and crisis management, women, peace and security, political advisory in peace support operations and counter-terrorism.
Her parliamentary work has included membership of the Environment, Science and Technology Committee. She has also been associated with environmental activism and community initiatives, including work around flooding and sanitation.pi
