President John Dramani Mahama has presided over the 48th Ceremonial Changing of the Guard Parade at the forecourt of the Jubilee House in Accra, marking the formal transfer of security responsibility at the Presidency.
The ceremony, held on Monday, formed part of a longstanding tradition under which the various branches of the Ghana Armed Forces rotate security duties at the seat of government. As part of the latest rotation, the Ghana Navy officially took over from the Ghana Army and will provide security at the Presidency for the next quarter.
Several senior government officials attended the parade, including Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, National Security Advisor Prosper Douglas Kwaku Bani, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, and Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi.
Students from a number of schools were also present to witness the ceremony. They included Best Brain International School, Abisease M/A Basic School, British Columbia College, Kingdom Heirs Montessori School, Unifiers Dance Academy and PWCE Demonstration Junior High School.
The Ceremonial Changing of the Guard Parade at the Presidency was introduced during President Mahama’s first administration on 5 May 2013. The initiative was established to strengthen security arrangements at the Presidency while showcasing the professionalism and discipline of the Ghana Armed Forces.
