NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, has outlined a comprehensive healthcare plan for Ghana, including free primary healthcare and management of chronic diseases, at the commissioning ceremony of the Lordina Foundation Maternity and Children’s Ward in Nkoranza.
Mahama announced that the next NDC government will introduce “Free Primary Healthcare” allowing citizens to access healthcare services at no cost at CHPS compounds, health centers, and polyclinics.
He emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare, stating, “We want a healthy Ghana. We don’t want to wait until you get seriously ill before you are referred.”
Under the Ghana Medical Care Trust—MahamaCares, the NDC government will provide care for chronic diseases, including kidney failures, cancers, heart diseases, hypertension, sickle cell disease, and diabetes.
Additionally, Mahama’s running mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, is championing the “Free Sanitary Pads for Schoolgirls” initiative and piloting the use of reusable silicone sanitary cups to address menstrual health needs.
