Mahama pledges six months’ salary to support MahamaCare Initiative

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to donate six months’ worth of his salary to support the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as MahamaCare, on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

The president made the pledge at the launch of the initiative at the University of Ghana Medical Centre before reading his main speech, expressing his commitment to the cause.

Although President Mahama is currently not receiving a salary due to ongoing account issues with the Accountant General’s Department, he vowed to contribute as soon as his salary payments resume.

“I pledge my six months’ salary to support this initiative, MahamaCare,” President Mahama stated.

“Although I’m not taking salaries now, as soon as it is done and I begin taking my salary, six months of that is to support this cause.”

The MahamaCare initiative aims to provide financial support for healthcare in Ghana. President Mahama’s pledge demonstrates his dedication to improving the country’s healthcare system.

The official launch of the initiative is in fulfilment of his campaign promise during the 2024 general elections.
