Mahama Pledges to Revitalize Nyinahin’s Bauxite Industry to Boost Economy and Create Jobs

John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has made a bold promise to prioritize the mining of bauxite in Nyinahin if elected in the upcoming December elections.

Speaking to residents in the town of Nyinahin, situated in the Atwima Mponua District, Mahama outlined a comprehensive plan to harness the area’s vast bauxite reserves, with the goal of stimulating local employment and driving national economic growth.

Nyinahin, Mahama noted, is home to some of the largest bauxite deposits in the country, a resource that has yet to be fully exploited despite its potential. He lamented the failure of the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to advance mining efforts in the region, despite having had eight years in office.

“Nyinahin is blessed with an invaluable mineral resource—bauxite. In fact, it holds more bauxite than any other part of Ghana,” Mahama declared. “When the NDC was in power, we had already begun plans to tap into this potential, but unfortunately, we lost the election. Since then, the NPP has done nothing to move the project forward.”

Mahama promised that an NDC-led government would not only revive the bauxite mining project but would also expedite its implementation to create jobs and boost the local economy. He emphasized that mining operations would bring much-needed employment opportunities to the people of Nyinahin and surrounding communities.

“The mining of bauxite here will create jobs for thousands of people, directly addressing the unemployment challenges you face,” Mahama pledged. “We are committed to making this vision a reality, so that the benefits of these resources stay within the local community.”

In addition to bauxite mining, Mahama shared plans for significant infrastructure development in the region. One key proposal is the extension of the railway line from Takoradi to Nyinahin. This, he explained, would facilitate the transportation of bauxite from the mines to processing plants and markets, making the industry more efficient and cost-effective.

“A new NDC government will work closely with local chiefs and other stakeholders to fast-track the construction of this railway extension. It is crucial for the success of the bauxite industry and will ensure that we have the infrastructure necessary to maximize our resources,” Mahama said.

In an effort to maximize the benefits of Ghana’s bauxite reserves, Mahama also unveiled plans to establish a factory in Nyinahin that would process the raw mineral into alumina. This step, he argued, would not only add value to the resource but also create additional employment opportunities in the area.

“When we begin mining bauxite, we will also build a processing plant right here in Nyinahin to turn it into alumina, a critical component in aluminum production. This will further create jobs and ensure that the economic benefits of our resources are felt locally,” Mahama explained.

As he concluded his address, Mahama urged Ghanaians to vote for change in December, emphasizing that the NPP had failed to improve the lives of ordinary citizens during its time in power. He expressed confidence that under the leadership of the NDC, Nyinahin and Ghana as a whole would see a brighter, more prosperous future.

“We cannot afford to give the NPP another chance. They have failed us, and it’s time for a government that will prioritize the welfare of the people and deliver real economic transformation,” Mahama asserted.

He reiterated his commitment to working closely with local leaders and stakeholders to ensure Nyinahin becomes a thriving hub for bauxite production, industrial growth, and job creation under an NDC administration.
