Mahama to host Addis Reckoning ahead of AU Summit

President John Dramani Mahama will on Saturday host an Accra Reset side event in Addis Ababa, setting the tone for conversations ahead of the official opening of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

The gathering, dubbed Addis Reckoning, will bring together a cross section of African presidents, policy influencers, chief executives of private businesses and leaders of multilateral organisations.

The meeting is designed as a working session focused on practical solutions to some of the continent’s most pressing economic and governance challenges.

At the heart of the discussions will be a proposed new framework to enable free movement and talent circulation across Africa, backed by a digital passport system.

Leaders will also examine how Africa can leverage technological innovation to extract greater value from its mineral resources, moving beyond raw exports to higher value processing and manufacturing.

Reform of global health governance and institutions is expected to feature prominently, especially in light of recent global health crises that exposed structural inequalities in access to vaccines, financing and emergency response systems.

Another key theme will be building strategic partnerships between African countries and leading nations in the Global South to harness artificial intelligence for development. Participants are expected to explore how emerging technologies can be deployed responsibly to drive productivity, education, healthcare and public service delivery.

President Mahama will be joined by fellow leaders serving on the Accra Reset Presidential Council, including prominent champions of the sovereign prosperity spheres concept, an approach aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and shared economic growth.

Organisers say the Addis Reckoning dialogue is intended to be candid and solutions driven, reflecting a growing call among African leaders for greater self determination, innovation and coordinated action on the global stage.
