Mahama, UN Secretary General discuss Ghana’s economy, security and reform

The United Nations Secretary General, António Guterres has reaffirmed the global body’s support for Ghana after meeting President John Dramani Mahama to discuss the country’s political stability, security climate and economic recovery.

The meeting focused on Ghana’s efforts to sustain its democratic credentials, pursue constitutional reforms and strengthen economic recovery at a time of global and regional uncertainty.

Mr Guterres commended Ghana’s continued commitment to democratic governance and acknowledged the country’s leadership role in regional diplomacy, particularly as security dynamics evolve across the Sahel.

He praised Ghana’s mediation efforts and its contribution to stability within the sub region.

President Mahama highlighted ongoing measures to consolidate economic gains and reinforce national cohesion, stressing the importance of international partnerships in sustaining progress.

The Secretary General reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to supporting Ghana’s peacebuilding, development and stabilization agenda, noting that collaboration remains critical as West Africa navigates complex political and security challenges.

The meeting underscored Ghana’s standing as a key democratic actor in the region and signalled continued cooperation between Accra and the United Nations in advancing stability and development.
