The leadership of Concerned Parents for Free SHS Ghana has dismissed former President John Mahama’s promise to introduce free admission for first-year university students, calling it a “fallacy” and a political gimmick.
According to a statement jointly signed by National Chairman Benjamin Oteng Marfo and General Secretary Isaac Frimpong, Mahama’s promise is untrustworthy, given his past record.

Furthermore, the group questioned the lack of clear implementation policy for Mahama’s promise, stating, parents whose wards are in SHS want the sustainability of the education system, which shouldn’t be partisan.
Citing the NDC’s unfulfilled 2008 promise of a “one-time NHIS,” the statement added, the group it cannot trust the main opposition party.
The Concerned Parents for Free SHS Ghana noted that there should be a clear-cut direction on NDC’s policy if only the party want to implement it as a nation.
The leadership called for a comprehensive review of the 23 components of the free SHS policy by stakeholders to ensure its sustainability.
