A private legal practitioner, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, has cautioned the Ghanaian people to keep adhering to Covid-19 rules stressing that the pandemic is not yet over.
He said the African continent seems to have seen little of the destructive effects of the pandemic noting that Ghana has vaccinated far less of its population compared to Western nations.
He however expressed optimism getting back to normality on the promises of the G-7 to increase the production of vaccines.
Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe was speaking in the light of recent disregard for Covid-19 protocols especially the social gatherings regulation.
“Watching the stadium and the people who were there and the fact that the Covid protocol was basically out and am looking at before the game, the processions and what have you,” he added.
While speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, Edudzi Tamakloe member of the NDC legal team said “among other things, the whole of the African continent appears to have been more or less spared of the devastating effects of Covid. I mean in terms of death, direct impact save maybe the economy among other things. I will still encourage that we do not take these matters for granted.”
Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe indicated that he has been a strong advocate for adherence to the Covid-19 rules stating “In fact, I really wanted to go to the stadium the Sunday but then again I said ‘no’. Having criticised the President’s and Bawumia on the funeral of Sir John and the things that happened there, I should not be among those who will go and endanger themselves and the health of other people related to our Covid restrictions” he added.
He noted that Ghana is still in the season of the pandemic adding, “And listening to Dr. Okoe Boye, I gathered the President knowing that so far we have vaccinated less than one percent of our population that’s for the double jab is not good enough. In fact, I was reading a literature recently that over a billion people have so far been vaccinated in China. That’s quite significant and the UK, they are dealing with almost 40m so far,” he added.
Edudzi Tamakloe said the US has expressed hopes of vaccinating more of their citizen emphasising that Ghana’s vaccination record is still at single digits.
“So we are still within the one, two, three percent range. That’s significantly low. I want to once again associate with the call by the G7 that is making arrangements to ensure that they ramp up the production of the Covid vaccine to make it available to developing countries like ours so that we get ourselves out of this trouble with Covid-19 and get the economy back on its feet,” he added.
