A majority of Ghanaian voters believe it is time for the country to be led by younger leaders, according to a new survey conducted by Global InfoAnalytics.
The nationwide poll found that 56% of voters support the idea of younger people leading Ghana, while 26% disagree. Another 19% of respondents said they had no opinion on the matter.
The findings suggest a growing appetite among voters for generational change in the country’s political leadership, with younger voters emerging as the strongest advocates for younger leaders taking up the reins of government.
According to the survey, support for younger leadership cuts across most parts of the country. Voters in the majority of regions indicated that they would prefer Ghana to be led by younger people.
The strongest support was recorded in the Savannah Region, where 89% of respondents backed the idea, followed by the Upper West Region (82%) and the Western Region (79%).
Other regions where a majority of voters favoured younger leadership include the Northern Region (63%), Bono East Region (61%), North East Region (60%), Eastern Region (59%) Volta Region (56%), Oti Region (53%), Greater Accra Region (54%), Ahafo Region (37%), Central Region (47%), Upper East Region (44%), and Western Region (79%).
However, the survey revealed resistance to the idea in three regions.
In the Ashanti Region, 51% of respondents opposed younger people leading the country, compared to 38% who supported the idea. The Bono Region also recorded more opposition, with 44% saying no and 32% saying yes.
Similarly, in the Western North Region, half of respondents (50%) disagreed that it is time for younger leaders to take charge, while 33% supported the proposition.
