Mamprugu Youth Association condemns Kusasi youth violence in Bawku

The Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA) has condemned the violent actions of Kusasi youth in Bawku, citing their attacks on police officers, civilians, and destruction of property.

The group’s statement follows recent clashes between Kusasi youth and security personnel, resulting in the torching of the Bawku Divisional Police Commander’s house and another police residence.

The statement signed by MAYA’s president, Mr. Seidu Awudu, and secretary, Abdul Majeed Bagura.criticized Mahama Ayariga, Majority Leader in Parliament, for seemingly supporting the Kusasi youth instead of condemning their actions.

The group urged the government to shut down illegal markets and lorry stations created by Kusasi youth, which they claim have led to extortion and violence

They called for calm among their members and urged the government to take decisive action to address the conflict.

MAYA also expressed concern over the lawlessness and criminality exhibited by Kusasi youth, who have blocked women from Bawku town from doing business and prevented others from transacting business in the area.

The group urged the police to remain professional and not condone any acts of lawlessness.

The conflict in Bawku has resulted in violence and destruction of property, with the Kusasi youth accused of targeting innocent people and killing those who use the original Bawku market or lorry station.

MAYA has called on the government to take urgent action to address the situation and restore peace in the area.
