Mamprugu Youth Association condemns murder of pharmacist in Bolgatanga

The Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA) has condemned the murder of Mr. Mohammed Zibrim, a respected Mamprusi pharmacist, in Bolgatanga on the sacred Day of Arafat.

The association described the attack as “senseless” and “heinous,” noting that it follows a disturbing pattern of lawlessness and targeted brutality in the area.

According to MAYA, the recent violence in Bawku includes the abduction of seven senior high school students, the murder of an innocent Mossi man at the animal market, and the burning of two vehicles along the Bawku-Bolgatanga highway.

“These acts of terror threaten the fragile peace in the area and must not be allowed to continue unchecked,” the association stated.

MAYA has demanded swift intervention from security agencies to apprehend and prosecute those responsible, emphasizing that “justice must not be delayed.”

The association also called on political figures and public commentators to exercise restraint and responsibility in their public discourse.

The group specifically criticized Cletus Avoka, a member of the Council of State, for making statements that “glorify violence and justify attacks against innocent civilians.”

MAYA urged the President and the Council of State to call Avoka to order, stressing that leadership must serve as a force for stability, not an instrument of discord.

Additionally, MAYA expressed disappointment with the silence of Mahama Ayariga and Issifu Mahmoud, MPs for Majority Leader and Bawku Central and Binduri, respectively, noting that they only speak out when victims are from certain ethnic groups.

“Their voices only emerge when victims are of Kusasi extraction, while they remain indifferent when innocent citizens from other communities suffer brutal attacks,” the association stated.

MAYA reaffirmed its commitment to peace, dialogue, and lawful conflict resolution, urging the Mamprugu youth to remain calm and vigilant while cooperating with security agencies to ensure justice and lasting peace.

“The blood of innocent Ghanaians must no longer stain our land. We demand action. We demand justice. And we stand united in our call for peace, dignity, and respect for all,” the association declared.
