Man, 53, arrested for selling sobolo and akpeteshie mixed with weed

Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 53-year-old man for allegedly selling sobolo and locally distilled gin mixed with weed at a drinking spot.

The suspect, Adjei Owusu Afiriyie, was picked up on Thursday morning after police raided a local pub known as De Vicky’s, where he is accused of serving customers drinks laced with the illegal substance.

According to the police, the operation followed intelligence that patrons at the pub were being sold sobolo and akpeteshie allegedly mixed with weed. Officers who carried out the raid retrieved several items believed to be connected to the activity.

The items seized included seven barrels containing locally manufactured dry gin, fifty six bottles of branded Alomo gin, one barrel of sobolo and one gallon of sobolo. Police say the drinks are suspected to have been infused with weed.

The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue. Police say further action will be taken once investigations are completed and the substances are tested.

Authorities have warned the public against the sale and consumption of unapproved alcoholic beverages, especially those suspected to be mixed with narcotic substances, and urged residents to report such activities to the police.
