A man who allegedly pretended to work at the office of Vice President of Ghana to defraud people seeking Canadian visas has been arrested and remanded.
The suspect is accused of presenting himself as a staff member at the Vice President’s office and promising to help individuals secure Canadian visas.
Investigators say he told his targets he had connections within the military and at the Canadian Embassy, claims he allegedly used to win their trust and collect money from them.
According to reports, a search of his room uncovered about ten Ghanaian passports along with other personal documents believed to belong to his alleged victims.
The discovery raised further concerns about the scale of the suspected operation and the number of people who may have been affected.
Many of the victims are said to have been desperately seeking opportunities to travel abroad in search of better prospects. Investigators believe the suspect exploited that hope by presenting himself as someone with influence and insider access.
He has since been arraigned before a court and remanded into custody. He is expected to reappear on March 3, 2026.
