A suspected thief has been caught allegedly cutting underground copper cables used to power streetlights along the Anyaa-Ablekuma stretch in Accra.
The man was reportedly found in the act with a hacksaw as he attempted to cut and remove the cables buried beneath the road.
The cables form part of the electrical infrastructure supplying power to streetlights along the stretch, raising concerns about the potential impact of their removal on lighting and public safety in the area.
The incident was discovered before the suspect could reportedly complete the job and take away the cables.
The circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether the suspect was working alone and the extent of any damage caused to the street lighting system, were not immediately clear.
