A man who died in the presidential convoy accident has been named by the Presidency.
A statement issued by the Presidency said Kwesi Atta who was a driver in the convoy was killed while returning from Kumasi, where President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had attended the funeral of the late Ejisu MP John Kumah.
“Several close protection and police officers from the President’s security detail have sustained varying degrees of injuries, and received initial treatment at the Suhum Government Hospital,” the statement signed by the Director of Communication at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin said.
“The injured persons are currently being evacuated to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for further treatment and observation,” he added.
Also, several vehicles in the convoy have also been completely wrecked as a result of the accident.
The Presidency has expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured officers.
The cause of the accident is still unknown and is being investigated by the authorities.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo is safe and unharmed, as he travelled to Accra via military aircraft.
