The Mankrong Nkwanta Police Station in the Agona East District of the Central Region is operating with only three personnel, leaving residents vulnerable to criminal activities.
The station, built during the Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah era, has a dedicated charge office, separate wards for males and females, and accommodation for officers, but is being underutilized due to the lack of personnel.
Residents, who spoke to Metro TV, expressed concern about the inability of the police to effectively combat criminal activities such as theft and motorbike snatching, which have become rampant in the area.
According to them, the police are often overwhelmed, and in some instances, direct civilians to effect arrests, especially when there is a delay in deploying reinforcement teams from Agona Swedru.
The residents are appealing to the Ministry of the Interior and the Ghana Police Service to post additional personnel to the station to enhance security in the area.
