Divorce rates are climbing because many modern couples see marriage as a contract instead of a covenant built on love and commitment, says Pastor Sampson Agyei.
Speaking on Gift FM, Pastor Agyei shared his concern that many young people now approach marriage as a temporary arrangement rather than a lifelong promise between two people and God.
He believes the shift in mindset is a big reason many relationships fall apart.
“Marriage is meant to be a covenant among three parties: the bride, the groom and God,” he said.
According to Pastor Agyei, some people rush into marriage out of desperation or financial need without genuine affection. When these foundations are weak, the relationship is more likely to crumble under pressure.
Quoting Genesis 2:24, he reminded listeners that the Bible describes marriage as two people becoming one flesh, a union that cannot be explained by science alone. But he fears this sacred idea has been lost as couples fail to truly “leave and cleave”, letting go of their old family ties to fully bond with their spouse.
Pastor Agyei urged couples to rediscover the true purpose of marriage, stressing that only real love and commitment can keep families together in the long run.
