A 58-year-old mason in Kwabenya has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after a court found he impregnated his 17-year-old daughter.
The girl, whose name is being withheld because she is a minor, delivered at Ga East Hospital. Hospital staff say she faced difficulty paying her medical bills until the hospital Social Welfare Department intervened and had the fees waived.
While the social welfare team was assisting her, a social worker asked who had impregnated the girl. The girl disclosed that her father was responsible. The social worker reported the disclosure to the Kwabenya Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit, which arranged a police medical examination at the hospital. Police subsequently arrested the accused.
The case was brought before the court, which handed down a 10-year prison sentence to Bledi.
