The Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Matilda Asante-Asiedu, has represented the Governor, Johnson Pandit Asiama, at the 67th Meeting of the Committee of Governors of Central Banks of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The high-level meeting was held in Monrovia, Liberia, from February 12 to 13, 2026.
In a post shared after the meeting, Madam Asante-Asiedu said she “had the privilege of representing the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, at the 67th Meeting of the Committee of Governors of Central Banks of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).”
She explained that discussions at the meeting focused on key economic issues affecting the sub-region.
“Our deliberations focused on addressing emerging macroeconomic and financial sector challenges, while advancing the roadmap toward the establishment of the ECOWAS Monetary Union,” she noted.
Beyond the governors’ meeting, the Deputy Governor also played a leading role in related regional engagements.
“On behalf of the Bank of Ghana, I also had the honour of chairing the 50th Board of Governors Meeting of the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM),” she stated.
The meeting was held alongside engagements with sister institutions, including the West African Monetary Agency (WAMA) and the West African Monetary Institute (WAMI).
Madam Asante-Asiedu stressed the importance of collaboration among ECOWAS member states in achieving monetary integration.
“Regional coordination remains essential as we work toward a stable, credible, and resilient monetary union that supports sustainable growth and shared prosperity across our sub-region,” she said.
The ECOWAS Monetary Union remains a key regional objective, aimed at introducing a single currency to enhance trade, financial stability, and economic integration among member countries.
