The Krontihene of Akyem Asoum, Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III, has publicly expressed his disappointment with outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s performance, citing unfulfilled expectations despite abundant resources.
Addressing the media, Nana Abodade III criticized Akufo-Addo’s administration, alleging disrespect towards traditional leaders.
He welcomed the end of Akufo-Addo’s term and expressed optimism about incoming President John Dramani Mahama’s ability to rescue the country.
Nana Abodade III drew a biblical analogy, referencing Luke 10:29, where he likened Ghana to a stripped and bleeding nation, with “robbers” having stolen its riches.
He praised Mahama as a “good Samaritan” who would restore Ghana to a healthy and happy state.
“It was quite clear, but people couldn’t just realize it, and some of us are happy that his reign is over. A lot of the chiefs are happy. A good friend of mine who is also a chief told me one day, ‘Let’s see if he will come around and instruct chiefs to wake up to greet him.’”
“It is not a good legacy. He could have done more. He had so much revenue, he had so much he could have done for this country, and so we pray we don’t get another Akufo-Addo to be president of Ghana,” Nana Abodade III said.
The traditional leader’s endorsement of Mahama is not an isolated incident. Previously, Nana Abodade III had criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing him of failing to deliver on key promises, including a pledged $18 billion investment.
