Media Tours Designated Venues For Accra 2023 Paralympic Games

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Accra 2023 Paralympic Games invited the media on Tuesday, May 16, to tour venues for the upcoming event scheduled for the 3rd to 12th of September, 2023.

The tour started around 9 am and saw numerous journalists from several media outlets converge at the African Paralympic Committee (APC) secretariat before departing for the designated locations confirmed to host the para games.

The 4 venues earmarked for the upcoming games comprise the Accra Sports Stadium, Accra, the Bukom Emporium, Accra, the Eden Heights, New Aplaku, and the Legon Stadium, Legon, with the aforementioned venues all set to host games across the various sporting disciplines.

The project manager for the tournament, Ignitius Ellety addressing the media at the commencement of the tour said some of the facilities are most likely to undergo some facelifts and renovations after which will be subjected to clearance by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

When asked if the Hathramani Hall at the Accra Sports Stadium will undergo any renovations before the commencement of the games, Mr. Ignitius Ellety answered, “Yes it could, but it all depends on certification and clearance from the IPC”.

The tour began with an inspection at the Accra Sports Stadium, one of the major facilities confirmed to host the first-ever African Paralympic Games, before visiting the Bukom Emporium in Bukom, Accra, then to the Eden Heights, New Aplaku, with the inspection ending at the Legon Stadium in Legon.

Present at the inspection was the President of the African Paralympic Committee, Mr. Samson Deen, the LOC chairman, Chris Boadi Mensah, and LOC member, Evans Yeboah, who all addressed the media and also implored them to offer their maximum support to the AfPC to host successful games.

Speaking to the media during the inspection of the Eden Heights facility, Mr. Samson Deen told the media, “We have a better understanding of the games that we are organizing and we know it’s doable. We’ve had the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation give this facility (Eden Heights) a 100% approval, which means we’re ever ready to host the game.
