Medical Laboratory Scientists begin nationwide strike today

The National Executive Council of the Medical Laboratory Scientists has announced a nationwide strike starting today, Monday, June 10, 2024.

This decision was made during an emergency meeting to address the union’s concerns and push for necessary attention.

The strike affects medical laboratories, blood banks, pathology labs, and some mortuary facilities across the country.

The strike, according to a statement available to Metro TV, is to protest delayed negotiations with the union and the lack of financial clearance for non-regular members.

The strike is in accordance with Section 159 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).

Both permanent and non-regular laboratory science professionals are participating in the strike. This includes workers from the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service, the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), the National Blood Services (NBS), teaching hospitals, Ahmadiyya Health Services Ghana, the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), and health training institutions.

The union has stated that no acts of intimidation against strikers will be tolerated.
