The National Executive Council of the Medical Laboratory Scientists has declared a nationwide strike effective Monday, June 12, 2024.
The strike effects medical laboratories, blood banks, pathology laboratories, and some mortuary facilities.
Key reasons for the strike include:
1. Delayed negotiations with the union.
2. Lack of financial clearance for non-regular members.
The strike involves both permanent and non-regular laboratory science professionals under the Ministry of Health and allied agencies, including the Ghana Health Service, Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), National Blood Services (NBS), Teaching Hospitals, Ahmadiyya Health Services Ghana, University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), and Health Training Institutions.
The union has warned that no acts of intimidation will be tolerated.
The strike is in accordance with Section 159 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).
