Metro TV has announced a new date for the inaugural Metro Sports Awards 8 in 8, an event designed to recognize and honor outstanding sports figures who have made significant contributions to the sports community over the past eight years.
Originally scheduled for Wednesday, January 29, 2025, the event will now take place on Friday, March 7, 2025. The date change aligns with Metro TV’s Ghana Month celebrations in March.
Seventeen nominees have been shortlisted for the awards by viewers of the television station, with eight to be honored for their exceptional achievements and dedication to sports over the past eight years.
Here are the nominees for the inaugural Metro TV 8 in 8 Sports Awards:
1. Abdul Karim Zito – Coach, Dreams FC; Former Coach, Black Satellites
2. Dr. Ben Asante – President, Ghana Hockey Federation; CEO, Ghana Gas
3. Dr. Kwaku Ofosu Asare – Chairman, African Games LOC
4. Alexander Ababio – Former CEO, Bofoakwa; President, Debibi United
5. Charles Osei Assibey – President, Ghana Arm Wrestling
6. Dr. Richard Nsenkyire – President, FC Samartex 1996
7. Dr. Daniel McKorley – Executive Chairman, McDan Group
8. Dr. Kwame Kyei – Director, Nations FC; Former Board Chairman, Asante Kotoko
9. Dr. Randy Abbey – President, Heart of Lions; Former Chairman, Black Satellites
10. Herbert Mensah – President, African Rugby Union
11. Mustafa Ussif – Minister of Youth and Sports
12. Gifty Oware – GFA EXCO Member; President, Berry Ladies
13. Moses Parker – President, Medeama
14. Samuel Takyi – Olympic Bronze Medalist
15. Samson Deen – President, African and Ghana Paralympic
16. Isaac Asiamah – Former Minister of Youth and Sports
17. Robert Coleman – CEO, Wembley Sports Construction Ltd
The awards ceremony will be held at Metro TV’s studios and the winner will be chosen via a public poll, which will run from Saturday, February 1, to Friday, February 28, 2025, on Metro TV’s social media platforms.
