The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has affirmed the government’s commitment to menstrual hygiene, child protection, and youth empowerment.
She stated this during the Menstrual Hygiene and Sexual Abuse Talk organized by the Touching the Lives of Girls Foundation International on Friday, in Accra.
Speaking on the theme, “Breaking the Silence,” the Minister stated that menstruation is a natural biological process and must not be treated with shame or stigma.
The Minister disclosed the efforts by the ministry and its partners, including UNICEF and the Ghana Education Service, to improve menstrual hygiene management, and commended the recent launch of the National Sanitary Pad Distribution Program for two million schoolgirls. Adding the importance of awareness and accountability in the fight against sexual abuse.
Dr. Lartey emphasized the need for youth financial literacy and encouraged young people to make informed decisions about money to support their future and national development.
“Let us build a Ghana where no girl is left behind because of her period, no child suffers in silence, and every young person has the financial wisdom to thrive,” she stated.
She announced available support platforms, including the Orange Support Centre, Boame App, and toll-free helplines (0800 800 800 / 0800 900 900 / 0800 111 222).
