The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has expressed profound grief over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians, including two Cabinet Ministers.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 6, 2025, Afenyo-Markin described the loss of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, among others, as a “profound human loss that touches the very soul of our Nation.”
“These were fathers, husbands, sons, and devoted patriots who awakened this fateful Wednesday morning with the noble intention of serving Ghana,” he said.
Afenyo-Markin shared personal reflections on the two ministers, saying he knew them “not as political opponents, but as fellow Ghanaians united in our love for this country.”
He described Dr. Murtala Mohammed as a passionate advocate for environmental protection who “possessed that rare quality of listening with intent to understand,” and Dr. Boamah as a scholar and patriot committed to modernizing the armed forces.
The Minority Leader extended his condolences to President John Dramani Mahama and the families of the victims, saying “your loss is our loss; your grief is our grief.”
He called on Ghanaians to honor the memory of the victims by supporting the Armed Forces, protecting the environment, and working together for national security and prosperity.
“Let us channel our grief into renewed determination to build the Ghana they envisioned,” Afenyo-Markin said, praying that the souls of the victims “rest in perfect peace, and may their memories remain everlasting beacons of light, guiding us towards a more united and prosperous Ghana.”
